USASA Women's Snowbard Team Gear Review — Real Conditions, Real Feedback

This season, members of our USASA Women's snowboard team had the opportunity to test Outdoor Master helmets and goggles during real riding days at Mammoth and beyond. From bright bluebird laps to active snowfall and long days on snow, the feedback consistently centered around comfort, clarity, and thoughtful design — with a few honest notes on fit and style preferences.

Below is a consolidated gear review based on multiple rider experiences.

Size & Fit

Fit was one of the most discussed elements across riders. For reference, one tester typically wears a size Small helmet and Small goggles.

  • Helmet:The helmet fit felt slightly large for smaller heads, but the overall shape was widely appreciated. Even when sizing ran a bit big, the helmet didn’t appear bulky or oversized once on. Riders noted no pressure points, and the interior padding felt comfortable for extended wear. One standout note was that the helmet shape works particularly well for Asian head shapes, offering a more natural, comfortable fit than many other brands.

While it does lean a bit bulkier compared to ultra low-profile helmets, riders emphasized that this tradeoff comes with excellent comfort, stability, and a “set it and forget it” feel while riding.

  • Goggles:The goggles also run slightly larger overall. On smaller faces, this resulted in some pressure around the nose after extended wear. That said, once properly seated, they felt secure and well-sealed during riding. Riders with medium to larger faces will likely find the fit more naturally dialed.

Lens Performance & Visibility

Lens performance was a clear highlight across all conditions. The Falcon goggles come with Zeiss Sonar Technology lenses that are designed to make details pop out on the snow and add visual contrast for optimal visibilty.

  • Clarity & Field of View:Riders reported a wide, unobstructed field of vision with clear optics and no visual distortion. Whether riding groomers or stormy conditions, visibility stayed consistent.

  • Fog Resistance:Fogging was a non-issue — even during active snowfall and low-visibility storm days. This was especially noticeable with the clear storm lens, which performed exceptionally well in flat-light conditions.

  • Bright Light Conditions:In very bright sun, one rider noted that their eyes were still slightly visible through the lens when facing directly into the sun. While this didn’t impact vision, a darker lens option would be preferred for high-alpine, bluebird days.

Helmet & Goggle Compatibility

Helmet-to-goggle integration was solid. Riders noted no noticeable gap, and the two pieces paired cleanly together both functionally and aesthetically.

Goggle magnetic lens system

Magnetic Lens System

The magnetic lens system stood out as a major win.

  • Lens changes were quick, intuitive, and easy to do on the hill.

  • Once familiar with the system, riders found it reliable and secure.

  • There is a brief learning curve — when pulling goggles back onto your face, you need to be mindful not to bump the lens — but this became second nature after the first use.

Comfort & Functional Details

One of the most praised features was how well the helmet accommodates wireless headphones.

  • Riders noted no pressure or discomfort, even during long days.

  • A thoughtful rear flap for routing headphone cords helps keep everything secure and out of the way — a small detail that made a big difference and is often missing from other helmets.

Design & Aesthetic Feedback

Design feedback leaned toward preference rather than performance issues:

  • The Outdoor Master logo appears on both the helmet and goggle strap, and some riders felt the font duplicationcould be softened by varying styles between pieces.

  • The goggle strap color was described as clean but neutral — riders suggested that brighter, more playful color options could elevate the look and add personality.

  • The strap pattern was fun and eye-catching, though riders who prefer a minimalist aesthetic may want a more subtle logo option.

Overall Impression

Across the board, Outdoor Master’s helmet and goggles delivered where it matters most: comfort, functionality, and dependable on-snow performance.

From fog-free lenses and quick magnetic swaps to all-day helmet comfort — even with headphones — this setup feels thoughtfully designed for riders who spend full days on the hill in changing conditions. While sizing may feel slightly large for smaller riders and some design elements come down to personal style preference, the performance and comfort easily back it up.

For riders looking for reliable gear that performs from first chair to last lap, Outdoor Master delivers a solid, confidence-inspiring setup.
